Excerpt from Drèd Wilme reported Killed, A Hero for the 21st century:

"...The Haitian resistance against the Western bicentennial re-colonization of Haiti lives on. Below, we bring again the voice of Drèd Wilme, speaking a few days after the Apaid-hired-gun, Labanye, was killed and the UN occupation troops themselves had entered Site Soleil to continue the Haitian extermination campaign begun when the U.S. Marines kidnapped President Aristide and exiled him from his country. Drèd Wilme was announced dead on July 7, 2005, the same day that US CIA asset and the real killer and Haitian bandit, Guy Phillipe, announced his candidacy for President of Haiti. Guy Phillipe is a terrorists to the majority of Haitians thus, naturally he's a "freedom fighter" for Roger Noreiga, James Foley, Haiti Democracy Project, NED, IRI and their Group 184 lackeys.

Drèd Wilme represent(ed) Haiti's manhood, its courage and commitment to liberty. He stood, as a lone fighter, a father to the Haitians in Site Soley without defenders against the most powerfully armed nations on earth. Wilme lasted without resources for more than 16months evading the biggest manhunt in the Western Hemisphere led against Haitian self-determination by the alien and foreign occupying forces. But because Dred Wilmè could not, like Guy Phillipe be bought off by a U.S. dollar, he was a terrorist for the aims of U.S. Ambassador Foley and right wing Cuban-American hater of indigenous self-rule, Roger Noreiga. Haitians throughout Haiti and the Diaspora embrace Wilme as they do Kapwa Lamò and Charlemagne Peralte. None of those calling Drèd Wilmè "bandit" have ever shown he traveled outside his community to attack either the foreigner who came to kill him in his own home, nor the morally repugnant Haitian bourgeoisie who paid assassins to destroy his community, his nation. In contrast to the bi-centennial Coup D'etat traitors, Drèd Wilme is known to the people in his community as a defender of the defenseless and poor. Again, we say, as we did last April, Wilme covered himself in glory because he added value in his own community, and if, in fact, he lives no more, he joins the line going back to that first Neg and Negès Ginen who can only - depi lan Guinen - live free or die. That unborn spirit, that Haitian soul, cannot die. It's rising." (Ezili Dantò of HLLN July 8, 2005 from Drèd Wilme reported Killed; and Video: U.N. Massacre on July 6, 2005 in Site Soley.)

"...On July 6, 2005, three months after Ezili's HLLN wrote this plea for law and justice, Dread Wilme in his family where assassinated in cold blood by 1,440 heavily armed UN/US troops. With their tanks, helicopters and advanced weapons, 440 UN/US soldiers entered Site Soley in the dead of night (3am) while the community was asleep. One thousand (1000) other UN/US soldiers surrounded Site Soley to make sure no one could leave. Bombs where reported unleashed and dropped on the unarmed civilian community.

According to The Cite Soleil Massacre Declassification Project the UN fired over 22,000 rounds of ammunition into this thin-shacked, cardboard-house, poverty-stricken Black community of about 450,000 Haitians, most having been forced off their safer rural lands by US/USAID/WB/IMF policies in the 80s and 90s. The overpopulation and imposed poverty brought crime to Haiti's capital as well as mobilized the desire of the people of Site Soley for a democratic government that would look out for their domestic interests and not that of US agribusiness, USAID's sterilize, starve (through use/non-use of food aid and free trade fraud promoting faminie), sweatshop, slaughter (through dictatorship) and contamination programs, all, to meet US State Department-Kissinger's depopulation and weakening of Haiti's public and social infrastructure initiatives. Population control, sterilize, force-assimilate, poison and starve - that is US foreign policy as carried out, say, since 1975 when President Ford signed off on Kissinger's NSSM 200 as official US foreign policy. Haiti was required not to invest in public health care, schooling, sanitation, its infrastructure and forced to privatized public companies servicing the public good. A flood -"Lavalas"- of people in Port au Prince and throughout Haiti rose up to wash away the US/Euro/World Bank/Agribusiness/Sweatshop impositions, when they came together and voted for Haiti's first democratically elected president, Jean Bertrand Aristide, who was a spokesperson for the poor. This mobilization which was in direct reaction to US imposition that had increased, by the millions, the population in Haiti's capital would lead to two Bush Regime changes (1991 and 2004) to "pacify" the justly angry residents forced into the Haitian capital as cheap labor in what the foreign NGOs' would come to label as the "red zones" of Site Soley, Bel Air, Martissant, Solino, et al... where they would be denied foreign aid, Haiti government aid and help and eventually their support for the Lavalas revolution would bring in the UN occupation, total disenfranchisement of the masses and the UN/US MINUSTAH slaughter and wholesale preventive incarceration of "bandits."

Reportedly, on July 6, 2005, over 60 civilians where slaughtered with hundreds wounded, their meager properties leveled by US/UN firepower. (Video: U.N. Massacre on July 6, 2005 in Site Soley.) The people of Site Soley secreted away Wilmè's body so his body wouldn't be defiled like Charlemagne Peralte by Haiti's occupiers. His funeral was a hero's farewell. His remains decked in a Vodun boat pushed out onto the open seas next to Site Soley water shores, and set to flames for his spirit to soar towards the countless African Ancestors who, like Dread Wilme, had made the ultimate sacrifice for our people's freedom and dignity. Dread Wilme fought off the armies from all the nations that had come to re-colonize Haiti. He fought the multi-nation occupation forces, their hired Haitian guns, alone. Faced them for 16-months against overwhelming odds with only the appreciation of a grateful but disenfranchised nation of impoverished Haitians. Funeral participants indicated to AHP that "there will always be more Drèd Wilmés as long as misery and exclusion is imposed on Haiti by the former enslaving nations. Months after his funeral, on October 17, 2005 on the anniversary of the assassination of Haiti's revolutionary founding father (Oct. 17, 1806), Jean Jacques Dessalines (Janjak Desalin), the people of Site Soley lifted up Dread Wilme in the fashion they have been lifting up the spirit of Dessalines for over two centuries. On October 17, 2005, the people of Site Soley, Haiti, declared, in their own people-authorized naming ceremony, with reportedly thousands in attendance, that Emmanuel Dread Wilme is their "hero for the 21st century... in honor of all of Haiti's freedom fighters, the masses in Haiti's Site Soley renamed and inaugurated a major boulevard in Haiti (Rt. 9) the "Dread Wilme Boulevard" to commemorate his life along with that of Haiti's founding father, Janjak Desalin.

Ezili's HLLN is sad and proud to have stood firm with Dread Wilme and for the people of Haiti's right to self-defense, when no one, not even the white so-called "progressives" or "liberals" would deign to give him voice or say his name aloud in a positive manner. In fact, many used the media and their platforms to help the UN/US criminalize Dread Wilme, the people of Site Soley and Lavalas, the better to dismiss their slaughter. It wasn't until after his death, that some came forth to report his death and the UN massacres. But Ezili's HLLN said his name aloud, lifted him up while he lived and struggled, wrote and campaigned, virtually alone, against his summary execution by the UN/US occupiers of Haiti. We commissioned this Lakounewyork April 2005 interview with the English transcription for the Ezili Danto Witness Project at a time when Dread Wilme voice, strong as ever, did not betray that he had taken some bullets in his stomach, was wounded and fighting for his life, refusing all urgings to leave Site Soley, lay low and maybe live. We commissioned this interview of Dread Wilme so that future generation of Haitians and concerned citizens for peace and justice in the international community could hear his voice, see that he was no "bandit" but a human being, a responsible community provider, leader and a Haitian patriot with the courage of the revolutionary Kapwa Lamò and Sanit Bèlè.

As a result of our work, the strength, ceaseless struggle and confidence of Haiti's suffering masses and that of some determine Haiti grassroots activists in Haiti, we believe less people were slaughtered in Haiti from 2004 to 2006 by the US/UN. In the July 6th case, the US Ambassador to Haiti, James Foley, not happy with our interventions, sent self-serving cables to Washington stating that we were "spreading rumors" of a massacre, claiming there was video evidence of the illegal goings on and gross abuses of force on unarmed civilians by the UN/US in Haiti. There was video evidence and our reporting, based on subsequent information, showed we had understated the number of troops that entered Site Soley and the number of civilians murdered outright, including UN/US head shots that killed babies asleep in bed with their mother, the old, infirm, handicapped and even pregnant women. Yet, the UN/US reported they were hunting "bandits" and "gangs" in Haiti. The world believed them, ignoring, to this day, the unearned suffering and innocent casualties of imperialism and US/Euro corporate greed. Voiceless folks that Dread Wilme had protected for 16-months in Haiti, with his very life and breath.

To hear Dread Wilme, go to Dread Wilme Speaks or read the English translation." (Emmanuel "Dread" Wilmè: The "Bandit King" of Site Soley and the US/UN most Wanted Man, SPEAKS.)
