SHOULD AMERICANS DEMAND CONGRESSIONAL BACKGROUND CHECKS?
Crazy, lazy, dirty and just plain nasty - that's how some of our elected leaders have turned out to be. Congressman David Wu's staff was so concerned about his mental state during the recent campaign, they kept him from public view. On the other hand Congressmen Christopher Lee and Anthony Weiner preferred the spotlight - displaying body parts like exhibitionists. And the recent debt crisis revealed more incompetence and slothfulness than anyone could have imagined. It's no wonder that a re cent Washington Post survey reported that 78% of respondents are dissatisfied with government. But what's an American to do? Is it time for citizens to demand the type of background investigations on prospective elected leaders as is required for federal employee candidates?
