Would Pelosi's Removal Facilitate Bush/Cheney Impeachment?
Soon after Speaker Pelosi assumed the Speakership, I tried to send her an email, and failing that, a regular letter, to express my concern that the new Congress needed to confront the Bush power grab and abuse of the Constitution.
I got a terse message that the Speaker does not take mail, email or calls from anyone not in her congressional district in California. I thought that as Speaker, Ms. Pelosi represented the entire U.S. House of Representatives and by extension, their constituencies.
So, when the Speaker blithely took Impeachment off the table, I was again frustrated that I could not contact her to offer my opinion.
I'm not the first, but now I'm joining the ranks of those who call for the Speaker's removal. I won't go into the myriad charges that could be brought against her; it is enough to say that, during the sorry affair that is the Bush presidency, she has failed to fulfill her oath of office.
She swore to "Protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." It's the domestic enemies against whom she has failed to protect the Constitution: Our very own administration!
Allowing a rogue administration to run roughshod over our most sacred expression of Law is not what the Founders had in mind.
Let's start the ball rolling: if we can't write and call the Speaker, contact someone else: media, Congress, the media, your friends, everybody.
