Core organizer of october2011.org and itsoureconomy.us

Rough interview notes-- not the complete interview by a long shot.

WE are going to start the occupation of freedom plaza in Washington DC.Â
People can sign up for classes
afternoon rally and march, evening Afghan war remembrance.

We're going to stay in Freedom pl

occupytogether.org

more than 110 cities with occupations.

An exciting moment that will return power to the people.

Thousands already signed up

What are you expecting from the police?
The DC police are not the NY PD.

There's been an occupation of McPherson plaza and the relationship with the police.

ALEC protest tried to get protesters to leave, ALEC guards called the police and police said

Our intention is not to make the police the enemy. The DC police have had to have their salaries held back in order to keep their healthcare

We're prepared to deal with anything...
We have peacekeepers-- trained personnel on how to calm down, prevent and watch for any potential violence. They're mostly Vets, They're there to spot potential violence-- an infiltrator to keep them from doing an violence-- to be t here to chill out violence between people and police,

We picked October 6th because it's the beginning of the 11th year of the Afghan war.

President Obama took off the table military, intelligence and homeland security budget.

Chris Hedges will be speaking first night, Cornell West will be speaking the next day.

Economic insecurity is the equivalent to the viet nam era draft. The draft made things personal for people.

The website october2011.org has many stories on why people are coming.

We'll be setting up a shanty town. It's amazing how many have appeared throughout the US.

We'll be staying

We call this stop the machine, create a new world.
Stop the machine involves civil resistance.

Create a new world is about creating new employee owned business, localized businesses,

The goal is in the long run end corporate rule and shift power to the people.

How will you be measuring the success of the action--

people being trained in the resistance, in the new economy.
We have 15 different issues and will have committees that work on that. Each day we'll have an assembly that meets and discusses. After freedom plaza there will be some kind of crowd sourcing.

A key thing about this is that it will be independent of the two parties. We're seeing people trying to bring in support of Democrats.

We will not be co-opted and be independent

Three prongs of indepent action...
Independent movement, independent media and independent electoral organizations.

itsoureconomy.us then search powell
Lewis Powell, over 40 years ago,

Battle today is participatory democaracy versus concentrated corporate power-- m eans democratizing the economy and democratizing the media.

We are operating as though every person in attendance is part of the media.

Relationship between Occupy Wall Street and this project.

Now occupytogether.org

Two months into organizing for october2011.org Adbusters announced that September 17 would start Occupy Wall Street.

No leadership. That's how it was done in Spain and Egypt.
we all want real democracy.
We have corporate controlled democracy-- a mirage rather than reality.

We want to see American empire ended

We want to see economic justice a sustainable economy and wealth divide shrunk

We want human rights

Those 110

We need to end corporate rule, corporatism and militarism and end the situation where corporate profits come before human needs

On our front page we have seven super majority issues that Americans want.

On all these issues the people want to go in one direction. The economic and power elite go in the other, wrong direction.

We're seeing the beginning of a new mass movement that includes every generation, that will give people more courage.

Three things to watch out for.
cooption-- not coopted by political parties, or moveon.
not settling for crumbs-- we're looking for transformation change
not getting pulled into electoral-- corporate supported politicians on both sides.

We don't want choose from evils, don't want to choose from corporate approved candidates

Civil Resistance and Civil Disobedience-- bb

will be happening regularly
insurance associations, lobbyists, media orgs-- lots of targets. I think you'll see lots of actions.

We have a legal team, a legal tent on the plaza to give legal advice--
We'll have a health tent and doctors and nurses
Media tent to get stories out.

Committees meeting on 15 core issues,

Even tomorrow night at Busboys and Poets-- at 6 PM.
Then starts 9 AM.
