What’s going on in the mind of Silda Wall Spitzer? Why do wives of scandalized politicians continue to hang in troubled marriages. The media can see it, the public can see it, why can’t they? Here’s my answer.

Obviously, something was wrong and the marriage upon entering the public eye of politics became more like a partnership. Instead of lover, friend and wife, Silda became the behind the scenes manager and Eliot sought his passions elsewhere as he spent over $80,000 on high priced prostitutes. Where did it go wrong?

When Silda Wall Spitzer gave up Silda Wall Spizter that’s when the trouble began. Here was a woman who could have run for President of the United States herself because of her successful track record as a lawyer. Strong, aggressive but yet balanced and thoughtful, Silda holds all the makings of someone powerful but she gave it all up for Eliot Spitzer. She loved him so much that she was willing to stand in the shadows so the light could shine on him instead of her. He stood in the light of the world and forgot about her in the shadows.

Silda is typical of many women and men who idolize their mate to the point they cease to have a life for themselves and their mate becomes their life. They put everything they have, all of their hopes, dreams and aspirations into their mate. Some people do not value this type of adoration and see it as a doormat and so walk on it as did Eliot. This type idolization of a mate always ends in tragedy as the star-struck mate is given a dose of reality upon finding out that the person they adored all these years was a jerk.

Currently, Silda is playing the good wife role, standing by her man but eventually the underlying hurt and pain will surface. She could be moved to divorce him but more than likely she will stay on waiting for some kind of remorse or regret from him. To stay with him, someone of his ego and arrogance is to suffer. I’m most certain the thought of divorce has entered Silda’s mind but the thought of living without Eliot is too much. Her life is so intertwined with  his that to loose him would be like loosing a lung. There are others who would have seen this type situation as a reality check and would have hit the door running but not Silda, she still see’s this as part of her public duties to stand by her ill-fated husband no matter what.

People make mistakes. People cheat on one another. Many manage to patch their marriage up and move on. The Spitzers will move on, the media will move on and the public will move on. In another week all of this will be as it never happened.
