Congress Denies Congressional Challenge without a Hearing

 Titusville , Fl –May 8th,2007 The House Committee on Administration’s dismissed Clint Curtis’ Contest before Congress without a hearing. The House Committee on Administration’s explanation according to a staffer present was that “due to secrecy of ballot rules, affidavits cannot be recognized.

” Volunteers from the Curtis campaign have been Walking for Democracy since last November. They have gathered hundreds of sworn and witnessed affidavits from voters as to how they actually voted in the Florida District 24 race. According to Mark Adams, attorney for Curtis who filed with Congress a Motion for Hearing on Motions Dismiss, there is no “secrecy of ballot rule.” Speaking about the voters in District 24, Curtis said that he admired their willingness to reveal who they voted for despite knowing their ballot was secret. “Many expressed gratitude for the work my volunteers were doing. They were glad their vote was actually going to be counted accurately and hopeful that a real change in the voting system would be the result. Now, they may not be so sure.”

 “Although we don’t understand why they want to keep Feeney in a seat he may not have won, we will accept that decision because this is not about personal gain. It is about our Democracy - that every voter across the nation will know their votes will be counted. Therefore, we still request an Independent Investigation into District 24 even though the results will not alter who is seated. We trust Congress will not regard the voters as liars and will accept legal testimony over secret software. Congress should not be telling the voter that their freedoms are unimportant and they must move to the back of the bus. This is not about partisan politics. This is about our Democracy. I will not give up until everyone’s vote is counted.”

What I would like you to do, is to take action. Write or call your Member of Congress and ask that they request an Independent Investigation into the Florida District 24 Race. Your action could well make the difference between making sure your vote gets counted in the next election.

 In an effort to prove that the official voting machine results were not accurate, my dedicated volunteers have been Walking for Democracy since November by collecting affidavits from voters as to how they actually voted. By connecting the vote to the voter, we ultimately proved that we received more votes for than the official results showed. For instance, in Precinct 66 in Seminole County , the official results showed that I received 57% of the Democratic and Independent vote. However, according to the affidavits we have collected, I actually received over 80% of the vote. This evidence demonstrates that the current electronic voting machines do not accurately count the vote.

 We have also been working with election integrity groups to help write amendments that will ensure that the bills get passed and that they protect your vote. There are now five Election Reform bills before Congress to address this clear and present threat to the American way of life.
