(a belated article- insomnia musing)
I usually write a traditional article on the Victory on WWII on May 9. This time I am a little late. Maybe it was for the good of it though because this time I had a chance to watch Russian TV. They had celebratory shows which I got used to: the war is shown now without names, without places and without accents; like something that happened very long ago and far away; the 100-years war in France comes to mind. A Nobel Prize physicist Jourice Alferov called the Russian TV "a criminal organization'. Same as Vermacht, the German Army was defined at Nuremberg Trials. I don't really think the Russian TV is a criminal enterprise yet. I think ours is. I think Russian TV is desperate to copy ours. They are imitators. Someone explained to them that attention was everything, even the negative attention. As soon as the TV- customer keeps the TV on the money trickles down. No wonder they follow our suite; the less is the sense the more is the entertainment. So they would show Russian POWs in 1941, raggedy and gloomy- that's OK., who cares for those losers who all died anyway? But they would not show the famous parade oft 45000 German POWs through Moscow in 1944 because, their German sponsors of commercials might not like it. Not that they were told anything explicitly, no. But if you are a prostitute the high level is the anticipation of the client's hidden desires. That's what they are- prostitutes.
Anticipation, as I said. At the end of the TV show they come out with the new statement:
- To the eternal memory of the soldiers of the Great War!
That's what they say now. The prostitutes are catering to the ignorant.
The definition "The Great War', is reserved in history for the WWI. It makes perfect sense; that war was the first one of a kind. It involved the whole world and its results affected practically everyone and on equal levels. Nobody can claim righteousness in that war; it was a historic accident of biblical proportions, a paroxysm of madness which possessed the human race for some time and ended in carnage. Nobody won (except for the bankers) and nobody can claim any glory. The primary feeling of all parties after WWI was SHAME; the same way teenagers feel after they are separated in the fight and see each- others bloody noses. Only this time there were 10mln dead. Russia, BTW made peace with Germany separately, the famous Brest- Litovsk Treaty, signed by Trotsky on behalf of the Communist government in Moscow. Those commies, imagine that- they even debated and voted on the peace treaty to sign and it passed with a very slim majority; tell that to our Congress when they debated the invasion of Iraq.
In any case, that is what the Great War was all about- SHAME. The people of the world were ashamed of what they have done.
