Now that the chameleon Mitt Romney has all but secured the Republican nomination "extravaganza" for president, the real down and dirty presidential electoral season is about to begin.

Yet, this time, after witnessing what policies Obama actually adopted in office as opposed to what Mr. "Change you can believe in" articulated in his 2008 campaign, one wonders, are there two chameleon's running?

Of course, there's an alternative, Rocky Anderson running on the Justice Party ticket, but like Ralph Nader before him, he may be the best candidate, but does he stand a chance against Obama and presumably Romney?

Two things to consider:

1. Can Anderson get on the ballot in all 50 states?

2. Will he be able to secure his place in the presidential debates?

At this point, those two questions remain unanswered (at least to this writer, who queried Anderson's campaign and got "We're working on it.")

We desperately need an alternative to the two party duopoly at the top because when all is said and done, when the dust clears, the policy's of either a Democrat or a Republican occupant in the White House remain essentially the same.

Sure there are differences. Obama is brighter and more articulate than cowboy Bush, but really, his policy decisions are hardly different, especially regarding war and the expansion of the national security state.

Guantanamo and other "black" sites remain open. Torture, extraordinary rendition, denial of habeas corpus, indefinite detention, wireless wiretapping remain in place and in some cases drone attacks and missile strikes have increased over what Bush authorized. Now the assassination of American citizens has been "legalized" and authorized without due process and the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) Obama signed on New Years Eve gives the military the right to hold any American citizen indefinitely if the president so authorizes it.

Meanwhile the financial behemoths, those "masters of the universe" have been rescued and the banks too big to fail haven't been broken up, all but assuring a new financial crisis and another economic meltdown in the not too distant future.

Then the previous administrations' perpetrators' who initiated illegal war in Afghanistan, lied about WMD and invaded Iraq, authorized torture, have never been held to account and are given a pass, primarily because the same essential practices have continued unabated under Obama.

The rich continue not paying their fair share, income inequality keeps growing, health care remains in the hands of the private health care industry monopoly and the electoral process has been usurped and remains in the firm control of the rich and special interests making the Congress handmaidens and sycophants beholden to those interests.

The 99% are still getting stiffed at the hands of the 1% as clearly articulated by the "occupy" movement, but as yet their correct perceptions haven't translated into bringing about the real changes necessary to reclaim our country.
