While this government and the people of America remain largely unaware, there is a massive storm developing just over the horizon; one that has been brewing for some time. This is a storm that is gathering momentum and force as it heads directly for America.

Let's call this oncoming force the "Perfect Storm." Such a powerful storm, one that lashed the East coast of America in 1991, is created as a result of the confluence of three different weather-related meteorological events; warm air from a low-pressure system coming from one direction, a flow of cool and dry air generated by a high-pressure system from another direction, and tropical moisture provided by an approaching hurricane.

The power and force of that storm was captured in the movie, "The Perfect Storm", when George Clooney, the captain of that ill-fated fishing vessel, the Andrea Gail, and his crew, became aware that they were headed into a gigantic storm; they were given numerous warnings to turn around and get out of its path. They had the time, they could have escaped danger but, instead of using basic common sense, they made the fateful mistake of thinking that they were somehow invincible and nothing could stop them; and that ill-advised decision sealed their terrible fate.

Let's compare this fateful sequence of events with the Perfect Storm now forming on this nation's horizon. Just as that destructive storm erupted in the North Atlantic Ocean, triggered by those three converging elements, so the scenario that I now portray has three distinct and associated elements that are gathering momentum and converging into one powerful force that threatens America.

The first element is the continued expansion of the U.S. military empire and the hubristic foreign policy of this government, together with the endless military conflicts that are designed to control and dominate other nations in order to control the world's most important resources, primarily oil. Those that control this government's agenda believe that this nation has the right to intervene in the affairs of any nation as it sees fit, and countries' borders and air space are no longer sacred or sovereign. That misguided belief will, in the longer term, backfire.

Whether it's Bush, Obama or Romney occupying the White House it makes little to no difference because no matter who happens to be the U.S. president at any given time, that individual, soon after entering office, becomes totally subservient to those who possess the real power in Washington D.C. and have made the military and war the nation's #1 priority.

The second element is the combination of the financial and business sectors. The now very mistrusted and discredited financial sector continues to prey on the people of this nation using a myriad of deceitful and manipulative tactics that serve to extract the remaining wealth of the majority of Americans and transfer it to those at the top of the income scale. In their lust and obsession for ever greater profits, they are closely allied with the masters of Corporatism who are working tirelessly to decimate the middle class, and with it, the American workforce. Together, these two entities are wreaking havoc with this nation's society.

The third element is this society and its people that are under siege and being ravaged by the financial/business sector. The majority of Americans are now becoming more and more aware that they are no more than objects to be manipulated by these masters of deceit that, effectively, are in control of this country. As they absorb the heavy blows and abuses being administered by Wall Street and Corporate America they are becoming extremely angry and frustrated because they find that they are powerless to fight back. And that increasing anger and frustration can be held back only so long before it triggers some form of very serious societal eruption.

This government, its society and its people have been given numerous warnings about this massive storm of great intensity; warnings that this military hubris has reached proportions that are unsustainable, that the costs of this military machine are driving this nation toward insolvency, that our domestic and societal foundations are rapidly eroding; that America is rapidly spiraling downward.

But these warnings of impending disaster, even as they grow louder and more intense, continue to go unheeded; we just don't seem to hear them and, if some of us actually do hear them, we refuse to accept such dire predictions of the dangers that lie ahead. And, just like the Andrea Gail and its crew, we continue on this precarious course thinking that this country is invincible, that there is no force that it cannot withstand. That, of course, is a good example of delusional thinking as the many empires that collapsed down through history found out the hard way.

So, what are the chances that this powerful storm will dissipate and lose its momentum before it arrives with a mighty impact? Realistically, they are very slight. The only way that I envision that this approaching disaster can be averted is if this government, understanding that this approaching storm has the force to cripple this nation, takes the necessary steps to effectively scale down its military presence in the world, significantly reduces the grossly overblown military budget, and then uses those hundreds of billions of dollars to rebuild America and restore the stability of its society.

The captain and the crew of the Andrea Gail were repeatedly warned of the colossal storm closing in on them and the extreme danger that they would face if they persisted on their dangerous course. They chose to totally ignore those warnings and paid the ultimate price.   We in America now have a very similar choice. War is the eye, the center of this storm. If this government and the people cannot finally accept that reality and come to the conclusion that this agenda of perpetual war must come to an end, then America will feel the full fury of a storm like no other.
