Pisces by Cathy Pagano/Kepler

When we reach the 12th sign of the Zodiac, we come to the end of our year-long journey.   The lesson:   Take everything you've learned, experienced and loved; everything you imagined, hoped for and desired for the future - and let it go! Or as Christ said: sell all your riches and come follow me.   This is the quintessence of the cycle -- can we die to our plans and even our skills and go through their dissolution so that a new birth can arise (when the Sun goes into Aries).   Like Aphrodite arising in the foamy waves, what we love will survive the death and give rise to the rebirth.

Pisces is the astrological sign that has been going through the most intense transformation in recent years. Transits from Uranus, Jupiter and now Chiron and Neptune, along with a Saturn opposition from Virgo, are creating a process of transformation within the collective unconscious itself.   Our species needs new stories, new forms of the archetypes to see us through to a new civilization -- perhaps a cosmic one.

Our connection with Spirit has been transformed: there are more conscious people alive today than ever before.   Uranus has been moving through the sign of Pisces for the last 7 years. Besides the tremendous collective emotional jolts from wars, famine, environmental disasters, global financial meltdown, and global warming, Uranus in Pisces energized and awakened us to the possibility of a deeper understanding of spirit and creativity and a more grounded belief and sense of destiny.   Uranus will leave Pisces on March 11th and go into Aries for the next 7 years, awakening us to our Archetypal identities, our deeper Selves.

Neptune leaves Aquarius after 14 years and moves into its own home sign of Pisces on April 4th.   After the tidal waves of Uranus/Jupiter in Pisces come the mists of Neptune as he returns to his own realm for the first time since 1847 -- 61. This period was one of great social turmoil leading to America's Civil War, when we were challenged to walk our talk and abolish slavery. It was a time of great social transformation and it looks like we're heading into another such time.

How we make it through this transformational time of 2012, the Uranus/Pluto squares, End Times mania and world-wide crisis depends a lot on how we deal with Neptune in Pisces -- home to the oceans of the world and our oil supplies; home of the Collective Unconscious of the Earth, the Anima Mundi.   If we use its energies to connect to our collective heart, if we open to the Creative Imagination, if we allow ourselves to be Spirit having a human experience, we will indeed create a better world.   But if we fall into the illusions of Neptune's mists, if we fail to make the necessary sacrifices for our children's children, if we fall into the delusions of misguided religious fanaticism and fatality, then we might lose this chance at peace, love and transformation.

PISCES: THE REALM OF THE ARCHETYPES OF LIFE

Ocean Waves by Cathy Pagano

As we swim into Pisces' waters, we immerse ourselves in the liquid light of Love. Pisces entices us to float in the cradle of the womb, go with the flow of the tides, and transcend our earthly reality.   The ocean of Piscean mysticism calls us to a state of transcendent oneness with all life, expanding our imaginations, calling us to a higher service, connecting us to the Collective Unconscious and the invisible weavers of our dreams, the archetypes.   Pisces symbolizes our right-brain, our mystical awareness and our ultimate belief in Spirit.   Pisces represents the waters of the oceans, rivers and streams, as well as the waters of the Soul.

These Waters have been called the Waters of Life.   And yet, in both our physical reality and in our psychic reality they are getting so polluted that we are in danger of killing life here on Earth.   The damage to our oceans from oil drilling and garbage as well as the pollution of our drinking water by toxic chemicals from farming, coal and gas exploration is at the tipping point.   People are getting sick from their drinking water.   Corporations are trying to privatize water.   What happens to people when they have no clean water supply?   They die! Just like the baby dolphins which are washing up dead on shore.   Dolphins were sacred to Aphrodite as well as Dionysus, and were believed to be the psychopomps who guided souls after death.   What does that say about us, that we are killing off our dolphin children?

The inner pollution is just as bad -- our psyches have been polluted by violent images and the constant bombardment by the corporate media to buy! buy! buy! Most people don't know how to relate to their own inner life and feelings, and so are easily manipulated into mob mentality by the very people (Koch Brothers) and media outlets (Fox) that profit off of them.   It seems we refuse to look at and deal with our inner mess, our Shadows, just as we refuse to clean up our outer environment. Our waters, which are meant for our refreshment and healing, have been poisoned.

And yet we continue to spend resources to look for water on the Moon, on Mars and other celestial bodies.   Instead of being good stewards of the waters of Earth, we continue to let those who run the economy destroy the very life of our planet.   We have indeed created the Wasteland.

Ancient cultures knew that for the land to stay healthy, human beings had to honor the Earth and her resources.   One of the great stories told by the Inuit about their oceanic goddess Sedna insisted that they respect the ocean so that it would continue to sustain them.

Sedna by Terry Nicholls

Sedna is the vain, beautiful daughter of an Inuit who refuses to marry the suitors her father brings before her.   Instead she gives her heart to a stranger who takes her to a distant land. There he reveals that he is a spirit-being named Raven Man.   He is a poor husband to her, a husband who doesn't provide sustenance for her and treats her as a possession.   Her cries of distress reach her father, who comes to rescue her.   But her enraged husband follows them across the waters and threatens both the girl and her father with death at sea. To appease their pursuer, her father casts Sedna overboard, and when she clings to the boat, he cuts off her fingers and she sinks to the bottom of the sea.   There she becomes a great Spiritual being, mother of the sea creatures who spring from the blood of her severed fingers. These creatures become the source of food for the Inuit, a gift Sedna can withdraw if the people do not treat her with care and respect.

The energy and story of Sedna came into collective consciousness when astronomer Mike Brown discovered and named the coldest, most distance dwarf planet known in the solar system on November 13, 2003.   Sedna's elongated orbital path is 10,500 years long. The last time Sedna was this close to Earth was at the end of the last big ice age and the beginning of agriculture during the Neolithic era.

Jung Institut-Zurich in dream interpretation, then got her M.A. in Counseling Psychology in Feminine Spirituality, and along the way became a certified Life Coach. As an astrologer and storyteller, she weaves the Cosmic Stories written in the stars and from The Bard's Grove, comments on emerging archetypal themes in movies. Cathy works with the tools of the imagination - dreams, alchemy, myths, astrology, symbolic language, storytelling, ritual - to awaken the Soul's wisdom.

I believe that Americans are called to a higher consciousness at this point in our history. We are called on to live up to our ideals and create the country our forefathers imagined. Inner consciousness needs to be acted upon for social justice.

Cathy believes that our writers and artists must take up our responsibility to create art that inspires, teaches and heals our humanity.

Cathy writes about political, psychological/spiritual, and cultural issues.
