On February 28, 2009, it was reported that Kathleen Sebelius had accepted Barak Obama's nomination for the position of Secretary of Health and Human Services. On March 2, 2009, Barack Obama officially announced Governor Sebelius as his nominee. Though she is expected to be confirmed, anti-abortion advocates have already begun to denounce the appointment and pro-life members in the Senate are most likely to be her main opposition. Moreover, she has alienated much of the Health Insurance industry in Kansas.

Judging from her record and from this oppostion, Ms. Sebelius will make an even more effective Secretary of H&HS than Howard Dean would have.

*(Apparently OEN carried an article similar to this one in February or earlier this month. Considering the interest in public health, not to mention insurance rip-offs and fraud, on March 27, 2009, it is urgently important that readers follow the link I provided above and telephone their Senators in support of Ms. Sebelius.)
