Ari Fleischer is the latest of former Bush-Cheney team members to seek to reconstruct the history of the Iraq War. The sharp repudiation of the world community added to huge poll majorities in America have caused neoconservative operatives to seek to spin a fabric of disinformation to obliterate reality.

Fleischer, former Bush-Cheney Press Secretary, in an appearance on Chris Matthews' "Hardball" on MSNBC, kept repeating in mantra fashion how fortunate Barack Obama is to have Saddam Hussein removed from Iraq. In the manner of neocon spin artists, his comments about the menace of Saddam and his removal were constantly linked to the necessity of making the world safer following 9/11.

Neocons have used 9/11 as a pretext for launching a regime from hell on scenes both foreign and domestic. Had it not been for Bush's failure to achieve "Mission Accomplished" in the timely manner that they had envisioned, who would seriously argue that Iran would have been next in prompt line for invasion.

Two resolute neocon media propagandists, William Kristol and George Will, were making the case for attacking Iran before America became bogged down in Iraq. Neocon fantasist were believing in their own invincible will to conquer would occur, and that Iraq would fall into line as a set of dominoes.

This domino theory, according to what we heard from propagandists, was said to have included Syria and other Middle East nations. Reality intruded on propaganda and fantasy.

Anyone bothering to read statements from the Project for the New American Century would learn that an Iraq War was on the drawing boards. Influential members like Paul Wolfowitz, who after Bush administration service would serve as president of the World Bank, and Richard Perle were on record calling for war with Iraq before assuming policy making positions in the administration that took office January 20, 2001.

The Project for the New American Century is clearly on record lobbying Bill Clinton and his administration on the topic of launching war with Saddam Hussein. This reality has not received anywhere near the attention it deserves from a mainstream media that played up so strongly Bush's "response" to the 9/11 attacks by pummeling Afghanistan in the perceived hunt to kill Osama bin Laden and destroy al Qaeda.

Another factor has not been played up with the attention deserved, the fact that Saddam Hussein, who was brought to power with sturdy assistance from the CIA, detested bin Laden and vice versa.

In fact, the brutal Iraqi dictator's acceptance of Sunni Islam was the catalyst for massacres of civilians in Iraq's Kurdish northern provinces, whose populace embraced Shia Islam.

Osama bin Laden was born and raised in Saudi Arabia. He has always adhered to that nation's dominant Wahhabi Islam. While linked to Sunni Islam, Wahhabism is a more militant version than the form of Sunni belief adhered to by Saddam Hussein.

Ari Flesicher and other understandably defensive Bush neocons are eager to avoid the inevitable flogging they are currently receiving in world opinion. This is understandable but one incontrovertible fact remains.

The UN weapons inspection team headed by Sweden's Hans Blix sought extra time to finish its report on the administration's claim that Saddam Hussein was in possession of "weapons of mass destruction."

Amid an unproven and ultimately refuted allegation that a clear and present danger existed of the immediate use of WMD against the United States, the "shock and awe" aerial assault launched by Project for the New American Century longtime Iraq War advocate and then Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld promptly superseded the effort of Blix's UN team to complete its work.

It is understandable why the neoconservatives were so eager to launch war at that point in time in the face of Blix's request for additional time.
