The storming of the Gaddafi family compound in Tripoli as well as the seizure of some of their other houses and properties by revolutionary forces have brought to light more than ever the opulence and decadence of their lifestyles, but now another term often used in reference to at least some of the Gaddafis is finding new emphasis: sadism. There have been many allegations and accounts of the brutal depravity of the Gaddafi regime, what with its secret prisons and torture chambers, but very few testimonies have been linked so directly to the Gaddafi family, and to be exact, to Hannibal Gaddafi and, in particular, his wife Aline Skaf, a famous lingerie model, as that recounted by CNN reporter Dan Rivers in the shocking and ongoing video story of Aline Gaddafi's nanny, Shwygar Mullah, and what happened to her at a Gaddafi family beach compound over the past year, a scenario even the Marquis de Sade, the jaded French aristocrat who, like the Gaddafi family, thought he was above religion, morality and law, would be hard-pressed to surpass. Of course Mullah's charges against Aline and Hannibal Gaddafi's household, I must point out, are allegations until proven in a court of law, but they are corroborated by fellow staff-members, and one has yet to see Aline Skaf make any public statement in her defense. Note as well that this is not the first time that Hannibal and his wife have been immeshed in charges of brutality against staff members:
In 2008, Swiss authorities arrested al-Gaddafi and wife Aline Skaf on charges "bodily harm, threatening behaviour and coercion" [ 3 ] after an incident involving two of their staff at the al-Gaddafis' hotel in Geneva. Those charges were later dropped, but as a result, relations between Libya and Switzerland have soured. In 2009, two Swiss citizens, Max Goeldi and Rachid Hamdani, were detained in Libya; the Swiss government asserts that the detention was done as retaliation against them for al-Gaddafi's arrest. [ 4 ]Here are some excerpts from the original Rivers report on Gaddafi's nanny:
Also in 2008, Gaddafi lost a lawsuit he brought in Denmark against Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. Ekstra Bladet reported that in 2005, Gaddafi, then a student in Copenhagen, had directed the abduction and beating of a Libyan national at the home of the Libyan consul in Gentofte. Gaddafi failed to appear in court to present his side of the case, and the court ruled that the existing evidence supported Ekstra Bladet's version of events. [ 5 ] [ 6 ] [ 7 ]- Advertisement -
Tripoli, Libya (CNN) -- Moammar Gadhafi told his people he lived modestly during his nearly 42-year rule over Libya, often sleeping in a Bedouin tent.
Even if that was true for the leader, it certainly wasn't for his sons.
At a seaside compound in western Tripoli, the Gadhafi boys enjoyed a decadent lifestyle that his people could only dream about, while perpetrating unspeakable horrors on the staff that served their every whim.
CNN visited the seaside homes Sunday.
The first house we entered was apparently the "party" beach condo with an oversized door that led into sleek, modern, black-and-white rooms. It had been ransacked by the rebels, but still it was spectacular, with panoramic ocean views and plenty of evidence of the hedonism for which Hannibal Gadhafi -- one of Moammar Gadhafi's sons -- is famous.....

I thought he meant perhaps a cigarette stubbed out on her arm. Nothing prepared me for the moment I walked into the room to see Shweyga Mullah.
At first I thought she was wearing a hat and something over her face. Then the awful realization dawned that her entire scalp and face were covered in red wounds and scabs, a mosaic of injuries that rendered her face into a grotesque patchwork.
Even though the burns were inflicted three months ago, she was clearly still in considerable pain. But she told us her story calmly.
She'd been the nanny to Hannibal's little son and daughter.
