Bye Rush - From NYC by Steve Leser
Yes, Rush Limbaugh has left New York City in protest of the increased taxes that were enacted last year. I've made mention several times of the fact that notorious right wingers like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and various other Conservative media personalities and pundits who preach the right wing, low tax, low government services lifestyle live in New York City, the most Liberal city in America. I guess the dichotomy got to be too much for Rush. Is it too much to hope that Coulter and the rest will be moseying down the road soon too?
Rush's final act of separating from NYC came in the form of selling his ten room, four terrace condo on Fifth avenue for $11.5 million as reported in the Wall Street Journal. The condo overlooks central park on East 86th street.
As soon as I heard the news, I couldn't get Ray Charles song "Hit the Road, Jack" out of my mind.
Rush still lives in a Liberal area and that is among the funnier things about this protest. Rush's radio show continues to be based out of Palm Beach, Florida and he has a waterfront house there. Democratic registration in Palm Beach county greatly exceeds that of Republicans by a margin of 372,000 to 236,000.
You would think that Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity and the rest of the conservative personalities would live in Butte, Montana, or Boise, Idaho or even Atlanta, Georgia. For some reason, however, these folks love to be in areas where they are surrounded by Liberals. They choose to live around the same Liberals they rant about on their shows. All of these folks have enough money to live wherever they want. Rush could certainly move his show wherever he wants and he chooses to live among us Liberals.
I'm not going to even try to perform long distance, dime store psychology on these folks, but isn't this odd?
Aren't fellow conservatives good enough for them? Apparently conservatives are not good enough, not as neighbors, anyway.
Whatever the reasons and psych behind it, I cannot wait to tell everyone I know here in New York that Rush Limbaugh has left. I'm in a mood to celebrate. In fact, I will be throwing an official "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out, Rush" party this Saturday, July 17th at 8pm at Jakes Dilemma located at 430 Amsterdam Avenue. I would say that the first round is on me, but when my fellow New Yorkers hear the news about Rush leaving and the party to celebrate it, even Mayor Bloomberg could go broke buying drinks for the multitude that may show up.
