Official Duties

This would be stunning if we haven't already been subjected to numerous betrayals coming from our so-called "change" president.

Justice Department's Matt Miller made a statement in defending Yoo and seeking to dismiss lawsuits against him that, " ... the agency disagrees with the previous administration took to issues of national security. Nevertheless, the department generally defends employees and former employees in lawsuits that are filed in connection to their official duties."

What "official duties" condone torture? When Obama said that no one is above the law, was he just being a hypocrite, or is he simply a deceitful liar? Is there a difference?

It seems that not even a low level sacrificial lamb will be thrown our way.

Probably the strongest sentiment expressed by the American people to the incoming administration was to see some justice for crimes committed by the Bush administration. Not out of revenge. That has nothing to do with it. But in the fundamental principle that forged this country and tens of thousands have die defending, that no man, no matter their rank or position is above the law.

This hollow defense given for defending Yoo is itself indefensible. It smacks of the failed Nuremberg trials defense of "just following orders." It places the rights of the people behind that of government, and that is exactly what we went to war to free ourselves from.

This often used claim of "national security" has become a catch-all for anything this government wishes to hide. So much so that it's over use has become comical.

Well, I'm not laughing and I suspect many reading this aren't either.

What this is, is a blatant attempt to make sure that higher powers remain protected. For if Yoo were indeed to be indicted and convicted it would mean that those he directed his advice to are equally, if not more so, guilty of crimes against humanity.

This is not change anyone can believe in. This is a continuation of a lawlessness that has infested our government, and a government that subverts the law is one that needs to be replaced. And if it can't be done through the ballot box, it must be done by any means necessary.
