We now have steel wings instead of hands and a fiery motor instead of heart
From the Russian anthem of aviators, 1930s
It took us a hard lesson to understand that
heart was more important than the fiery motor..
From the Russian article in 1980s
Life sometimes imitates art. But even more it imitates another life, something other people did before. In the US we currently are experiencing the revival of the Stalinesque- oriented approach to technology. Many years ago, in the formerly agrarian country the people started to build a new order and a new state with the first goal of industrialization. It was very difficult to do and in order to support themselves they had created a culture of nearly mythological enthusiasm when their new achievements, those machines, those great planes, locomotives, cars and tanks were described as the ones alive while people, on the other hand were described as ones possessing the features of mechanical nature. They invented such descriptions as "iron horse' for the tractor and "birds of freedom' for airplanes, also "man of steel' for their leader and "the everlasting nails' for the members of the leading party. They were naïve and easygoing and hopeful and it took them a lot of time to understand that such exercises dehumanized them and made them tools of the very deep- rooted malice. But eventually they figured it out. We here are only starting. Of course, we will have our own twist; we are the land of opportunity after all. Here are some.
1. Adoption
This will be a new initiative, piloted most likely by our female senators. The US diversity communities will adopt certain drone fleets. There will be " Jewish Drones', "Hispanic Drones', "Black Drones', "KKK drones', "Drones of Confederacy', " Southern Baptist Drones' and even "Drones of Chicago'. There will be competitions on the amount of "killed bugs' (people- ML) per year, charity balls and tours for the children to the command centers where kids could experience the "bug hunt'.
2. New Customs
It will become customary for the President to deliver the annual "drone speech' to the newly commissioned fleet of drones, wishing those machines well, to live long and prosper.
3. Hollywood
Drones will become a part of a popular culture. Hollywood will contribute with the movies. Here is one: Lyrical Comedy "Drones of Love'. They are two gays, both are drone pilots. They meet after the bug- hunting in a gay bar. Both are fascinated with their jobs but one is complaining that his boss is a bigot. That boss does not pay him per killed bug but prefers to pay a fixed fee. They fall in love and start to investigate. Eventually they find out that boss to be a secret bug- sympathizer who sabotages the drone program for years. They promptly inform Homeland Security and in the end they are both married and fly away on a drone to a honeymoon.
4. Entertainment Industry
There will be drone action figures, drone cookies and drone drinks. There will be a lot of drone visual games. There will be a drone Sesame Street personality- he will be called Lovedrone. There will be drone songs and drone albums. There will be a drone wedding cake. There will be drone nursery rhymes and drone lullabies.
5. Popular Culture
That one will manifest itself in the world of the young in a form of popular drone- related jargon:
