Democratic Reps. Jim Matheson of Utah and Edward Markey of Massachusetts, who is chairman of the subcommittee that oversees the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, have demanded that the NRC produce documents by April 2nd justifying the agency's recent reclassification of DU as Class A hazardous waste, the least dangerous category. They called the NRC's decision an 'arbitrary and capricious mischaracterization' of the waste.
