|I thought liberals and Democrats would see Operation Offset as the gift that it wasan opportunity to slam Republicans for not caring about the very population Katrina exposed as having been 'left behind' by America's progress: low-income Americans. After all, as Dionne notes, the proposal included heartless cuts to programs that help the poor, like Medicaid and school lunch subsidies. But the resistance to the fiscal conservatives came not from the left, not from the Democratic leadership, but from the GOP.|
