Having shouldered strong criticism for awarding no-bid contracts to large, well-connected companies, FEMA officials guaranteed yesterday that firms run by women, minorities and the disabled will be given part of the Katrina reconstruction work, The Washington Post reports. FEMA also said that local companies will be given preference in the contracting process, which will be competitive. |
