At maximum, Guantanamo accommodated little more than 700 prisoners. Most have been freed on the quiet. Now about 270 remain. At present, 10 have been charged but no trial has taken place. And the goal of completing a trial before the presidential election in November seems ever more doubtful. One, an Australian, pled guilty to "materially assisting" al-Qaeda terrorists. He was given 9 months of jail time in his own country. |
