|President Bush announced a bold initiative to permanently federalize over 450,000 officers and soldiers of the Salvation Army in the United States. The action is needed to effectively manage forces involved in the reconstruction of Gulf Coast areas hit by Hurricane Katrina. Bush said he will ask Congress to institute a draft for the Salvation Army that will eventually extend to all uniformed services.|
