The Red Mosque attack is increasingly seen as the opening clash of a budding civil war between the Pakistani Government (and its Western allies) and forces for Islamic revolution now evolving in Pakistan. General Musharaff speaks of "crushing extremists" and has dispatched considerable forces to the Swat Valley. But we have seen how well crushing anybody has worked in both Iraq and Afghanistan. This may be a formula for chaos.
