Torture doesn't work. Torture invites blowback. But Ariel Dorfman, author of a classic novel about torture, 'Death and the Maiden' (also an unforgettable movie with Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley), refuses to use this argument 'for fear of honoroing the debate by participating in it.'
