In the US the gerrymandering of district boundaries and the advantages of incumbency - in terms of boasting about bringing fed $$ home and raising money for the campaign - are such that more than 90% of incumbents retain their seat...usually. Concerns over the economy, high petrol prices and the continuing troubles emanating from Iraq and the rest of the ME all spell trouble for Republicans. |
