Faced with a short list of options and an even shorter amount of time in which to exercise them, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors reluctantly voted Friday morning to move forward with Hart InterCivic touch-screen systems to meet federal mandates for disabled voters' access in the November election.
The move carries a hefty price tag: "something under $804,000," county Registrar of Voters Carolyn Crnich told the board - a stark contrast with the anticipated $65,000 cost that would have accompanied the county's first choice, the low-tech Vote-PAD devices. |
