" in reality, Barbara Jones article completely ignores the fact that students who have been socially promoted years beyond their ability are objectively incapable of doing any curriculum- "new" or otherwise, because they clearly lack mastery of the basic prior grade-level standards necessary to do so- As for toughening its graduation requirements, schools like Roosevelt High School with existing graduation requirements already loses 55% of its students before they reach the 12th grade. And then, only 30% of these graduating seniors have the requisite college A-G requirements necessary to give them even a chance in college. Over 65% of LAUSD students arriving at Los Angeles City College (LACC) and other junior colleges in the Los Angeles area wind up being put into remedial classes, because they are completely unequipped to handle college-level work!!"
