About 2,000 email and fax ballot applications have yet to be processed by the Hudson County Clerk's Office, according to the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey, which is seeking a court order to force the state to allow displaced voters to cast ballots using a federal absentee balloting program. Substantial backlogs also exist in Bergen, Essex and Middlesex Counties, the group said. "We are talking about thousands, if not tens of thousands, of voters being affected. It's a real significant problem," said Alex Shalom, the ACLU's policy counsel. |
