|The Supreme Court once again provided the answer to Karl Rove's prayers in the form of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. The Court ruled in a five-to-four decision that the First Amendment prohibits the government from limiting spending for political purposes by corporations and unions and effectively granted corporations and unions the same free-speech rights enjoyed by individual citizens. The first decision legitimized Rove's power during the two terms of George W. Bush. The second one allowed Rove to re-establish his power and gave a new life to his vision of creating a "permanent Republican majority."|
