Chevron Involved In Another Accident, Stock Unaffected As Nigerians Protest High Fuel Prices

Yet another oil well environmental disaster is occurring while Nigerians riot against fuel prices and poverty conditions. Nigerians suffer while Wall Street flourishes. Chevron suffered a mishap in Nigeria this week after a rig working on an offshore gas well caught fire and partially collapsed. [1] The company reported that two of its contractors were missing after the incident and 152 other workers were evacuated from the rig and another barge working nearby.

The oil major said that failure of surface equipment was the most probable reason for the accident. The natural gas well was still burning Tuesday and the company said that it was unable to estimate how long it would take to bring the fire under control.
