Pentagon spokespeople have repeatedly insisted that the US military's activities in Pakistan are restricted to training operations. Such statements might help explain why Ambassador Richard Holbrooke lied to the world when he said bluntly in July 2010: "People think that the US has troops in Pakistan, well, we don't."
