Metcalfe and Brown also said they were troubled by Brewster questioning the stated purpose for which the records were sought -- to verify election results. Brewster said in her letter that a bipartisan state review board had confirmed the election results.
Alaska law does not require citizens to provide a reason for obtaining a public record, Brown said. "The public owns these records," Brown said. "It's our right to have them. They don't get to withhold them just because they don't agree with us." |
