Few deny the intelligence of whales. The US Navy has been using pilot whales for years, to perform deep-water military operations. However, whales working in their natural ocean environment, do not experience the same type of close contact that orcas in theme parks do. Still, whales communicate by sonar and other ways that humans do not fully understand. Gaps in that communication can result in tragedy.
