Texas Governor Rick Perry faces a free-for-all in his re-election bid, including a challenge from a member of his Republican Party that has sent ripples all the way to the White House.
Republican State Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn, the mother of presidential press secretary Scott McClellan, is running as an independent. So is author and musician Kinky Friedman, whose campaign slogan is ''Why the hell not?'' His party is reeling from the indictment of Tom DeLay, the former U.S. House majority leader and from state lawmakers' inability to craft a school finance system that will win court approval. |
