|The Senate averted a showdown Tuesday over the fate of the filibuster as it confirmed President Barack Obama's choice to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and moved to consider other key administration nominees. In exchange for acting on Richard Cordray, Democrats and the White House agreed to withdraw two National Labor Relations Board nominees who were recess appointments by Obama and replace them with new choices.|
