Joel Shatsky, and English Professor who writes a blog at the Huffington Post, offers a wonderful analysis of standardized tests, explaining the facts and the evidence. This is a must read piece, but the only thing not mentioned here is something that is mentioned no where in the national conversation...that the real NEW STANDARDS research, set the rubrics for LEARNING, and the only mention of tests, were those for the use of the teacher to track progress. This Principle of Learning was called GENUINE EVALUATION AND AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT, which is ironic, as there is nothing authentic about standardized testing, introduced by the Bush administration in an attempt to get rid of the voice of teachers. |
