The NY Times says: 'By almost any metric, the for-profit schools are generally a bad deal for taxpayers -- and for the underprivileged students they often recruit through deceptive means.' Yet, at this moment, the push to privatize our public elementary and secondary schools is going on behind the scenes. Educators who are following this organized effort to end public education and reward businesses with huge profits and little oversight, watch as parents across the nation are invited to informal meetings and events and wooed with lies and false promises. Under the guise of giving them a choice, with high sounding names like 'Students First' (Rhee's pet project) parents are deceived. Charter schools, in 80% of the cases do not better, and often far worse than public schools. Twenty years from now, the paper will be reporting the huge scandal that will accompany Charter Schools.
