Must Read; Understanding the Editor Whitelist System

TO prevent hackers from accessing the admin control panel, which happened recently, we are now limiting access to those pages to people whose IP addresses are approved-- strictly editors. Anyone else who tries to access the admin page will get an error message when they try to log in, even if they try to log in as you, if they use a different IP address.  .

If that happens to YOU because you are at a different location, say, a coffee shop or visiting a family member or friend, then you will also get that error message. BUT... you will also be sent an email so you can click on a link and authorize that new IP address.

An IP address is a number designated for access points to the web. Most cable or FIOS or satellite web services have a unique IP address for each home. if you google WhatismyIPaddress you will find a site that tells you your IP address. And based on an IP address, you can tell where a person is accessing the web. That's why some websites show you ads for your neighborhood.

Now, if a hacker tries to log in as you, he will not be able to get in. But YOU will get an email that you can click on to add a new IP address. If you are home, or at a location that you've already had approved, that email should be a warning that someone is trying to falsely use your log in name and info. You do NOT want to click on the link then. Please send us the email. In a few days, we'll be further enhancing this aspect of our security system so we will know when you've received one of these emails. I may drop you a note to check with you, to see if the log in at a new location is legitimate. Or we may make it automatic.

I hope this is a clearer explanation. I'll be adding it to our FAQ system for editors.
