"Now, Therefore THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY proclaims THIS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations, to the end that every individual and every organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind, shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these rights and freedoms and by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance, both among the peoples of Member States themselves and among the peoples of territories under their jurisdiction."

Humanity's biggest blunder to date?
by W. Finnerty Tue Nov 27, 2012 08:22

Our failure to put into practice the 1948 United Nations "teaching and education" recommendation made in the final paragraph of the PREAMBLE at: http://www. un .org/en/documents/udhr/index.shtml ?

In the hope that it might still not be too late to learn from our mistake, a set of four e-mails were sent to all (or almost all) of the Republic of Ireland's TDs (elected representatives to Central Government), Senators, and MEPs (Members of the European Parliament) yesterday.

It was titled: "Article 5 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights".

Copies of the four e-mails used can be viewed at the following four locations:

TDs Group 2: Dail31TDs/Group 2 of2 /26November2012/Email.htm

Senators: 24thSeanadMembers /26November2012/Email.htm

MEPs (Members of the European Parliament): MEPs /26November2012/Email.htm

Each of the four e-mails referred to above contained the piece of text in the section just below:

"Why is it that the summation of such political, legal, and corporate corruption appears to have already crossed some invisible line, and taken on a monstrous and self-destructive 'life of its own': so that it now looks to many (including myself) as though the worsening situation relating to such corruption may in fact be unstoppable, and impossible for humanity to ever reverse?"
