An opinion on Robs recent post asking for our opinions on how to improve our dining experience.

::::::::

      A diary is personal. Thoughts, in this case, hopefully well written out.

      I like language. I like ideas. Thoughts well written out. Words that attempt to paint a personal vision whatever it may be. I adore sincerity, even when it bothers me a lot. Many times being bothered is a hint that I need to look closer at why I'm bothered. I appreciate thought out thoughts.

      I don't read for agreement. I read because of my interest in divergent ideas and perspectives. I found long ago most of what I thought belonged to me (ego) I am only borrowing. I paint my own canvas. The picture I paint is mine. The colors I've borrowed. Therefore, my paintings change.

      I am guilty of having a personal motive as are all of us. Nothing in history that has been written is without a motive. My motive is to share what I know at this moment with someone who I wish to share it with. Some folks don't like sharing anything except vitrol for those who do. I walk away from them. I'm done. That's just me.

      My weakness is I have this penchant for wanting 'to understand' better. I'm not driven 'to know' anything absolutely. I find certainty incredibly suffocating. Adding to this weakness is that I find it difficult to condemn most styles however foreign, ambiguous, raunchy, over the top pissed off or just plain unintelligible.

      As I detest and believe hate entirety counter productive to growth, I believe anger is not hate and we, I, many times confuse the two. Sometimes anger is hate in camouflage, but this call is one of perspective and difficult to prove or deny, therefore many times ends up simply being destructive. Anger can be positive. I just think that the anger window is smaller and harder to fit through. The understanding window has a larger opening. But then, more crap can get in. It's more work to sift through the BS, but in the long run IMHO, a much better outcome for all of us.

      Since I believe we are all 'works in progress' I am perhaps a bit naive and more forgiving of a 'Pappy' or  'KG' or 'some possible troll'. I hope too that I am worthy of forgiveness for a glaring difference that pisses off the masses. I have learned some good stuff from being wounded. Personally as an example, I can't stomach Hustler magazine, (I tried but can't get down with it at all) but I don't believe I can make that call for others. Rob on the other hand has a public responsibility here. He is concerned about the bigger picture because we all are so different. Hell, do you really want to be in that kitchen cooking for all of us?

      Therefore, I could not do and do not want Rob's gig. As this is his baby, I gladly abide by his determinations of how he decides to run Oped. I disagree with him on some issues, not because I think he's wrong, but because I just disagree. What else is new? I disagree with my wife a bunch. Welcome to reality. We survive. If agreement is your prerequsite for success, don't look me up.

      My point is my point.

      Oped has been and is a very cool place for me. What Rob has given us, I would think most are grateful for and have benefitted greatly having this forum. If Rob decides, and I notice he is not shy about asking for and wanting our opinions quite often as he grows, then I give him that. If we disagree, we can tell him. If we don't like his decision, we can leave. I notice too that many times the ones he spanks he leaves keys for. Sometimes he packs your bags for you. Moms and Dads do that. Bush and Congress don't.

      Rob, like all of us, is far from perfect. But if I thought he was insincere, I wouldn't waste my time with this.

      peace
