An update from Steve Heller (formerly known as the Diebold Whistle-blower) about Velvet Revolution's Election Protection Strike Force and Rep. Kucinich's Articles of Impeachment :::::::: Hello friends, Steve Heller here (formerly known as the Diebold Whistle-blower). Just two updates that I'd like to share with you... First, I wanted to let you know that I have joined the staff of Velvet Revolution's Election Protection Strike Force, which is a non-partisan election integrity advocacy and watchdog organization co-founded by The BRAD BLOG and Justice Through Music. I have only recently started working with them and on the website, and I have a lot of plans for it. I hope you will check in from time to time for news and information about election integrity issues, to leave comments in the blogs, and to find out what you can do to get active in this very important cause. But most of all, I am especially proud to tell you that I was privileged to assist Rep. Dennis Kucinich and his staff in the preparation of the Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush. Rep. Kucinich read these 35 articles on the floor of the House of Representatives on June 9, 2008. Last November, Brad Friedman of The BRAD BLOG, an expert in election integrity issues, was consulted by Kucinich concerning Bush's various High Crimes and Misdemeanors having to do with elections, and Brad asked me to help him with the project. I was delighted! I provided research and information to Rep. Kucinich and his staff, and I was very, very proud to hear most of the draft material that I provided used in Article XXIX, Conspiracy To Violate The Voting Rights Act Of 1965. I'm honored to have assisted in the preparation of this historic and important document. Please, if you will, sign this petition supporting Rep. Kucinich and urging your Congressperson and Senators to join him in this effort. I know that the chance of Bush actually being impeached or in any way held accountable for his violations of the Constitution, his violations of the Geneva Conventions, his human rights crimes, his war crimes, and the many other crimes he is alleged to have engaged in is, as the saying goes, "slim to bupkis." Nevertheless, for what it's worth, in the Congressional Record there is now proof that some Americans were not willing to ignore or gloss over these terrible crimes. No one, not even the President during wartime, is above the Constitution, above the law. No one, not even the President during wartime, may spy on Americans without warrants or judicial oversight, nor allow prisoners to be tortured, regardless of how dangerous our enemies are or might be. Quite simply, we do not live in a dictatorship where the President has the power to cancel out our Constitutional rights and approve the torture of prisoners. President Bush and Vice President Cheney have done just that, and for this flagrant, shameful, and gross abuse of power, they both must be impeached, regardless of how much time they have left in office. To me, this isn't political, it isn't about Democrats versus Republicans, and it's not about retribution. It's not even about George W. Bush. It is about the Constitution. It's about the Rule of Law, the Geneva Conventions, and human rights. It's about the future of this country, and about keeping our nation a Constitutional Republic. And it's about once again making our country a nation that does not torture prisoners! I am proud to have been a part of this important effort to defend and protect the Constitution and our Republic.
Steve Heller became an election integrity activist after the 2000 election debacle in Florida.
