Remember Tom DeLaye and Jack Abramoff? I'll Bet Mr. Schaffer, Hopes Not

Tom DeLaye, Jack Abramoff and ROBERT Schaffer. The Then-Congressman Bob Schaffer announced just before boarding his plane to the Mariana Islands in 1999, that he was embarking on a fact-finding mission to "investigate" the oft-repeated allegations of labor abuse. This included researching forced abortions of employees and the sizing up the females for beauty and sending them off against their will to become prostitutes in that American protectorate. "I plan to walk right into those factories and living quarters to see for myself what conditions exist," Schaffer bragged in a news release in August of that year. Hypocrite? You be the judge. What he neglected to say was that the trip was arranged in part by the firm of the convicted criminal lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who represented textile factory owners who were fighting congressional efforts to reform labor and immigration laws on the islands and who was extremely well paid ($11 millions or more) to keep the islands' free of fair labor and decent human rights practices. Mr and Mrs. Schaffer were booked without cost to them at a luxury beach resort, aflutter with palm trees and tropic delights. However, they were not there strictly on business, they toured historical sites, met with clients of Preston-Gates, Abramoff's company, according to a copy of the trip's agenda which was saved among Schaffer's congressional papers. Schaffer left maintaining that the "allegations of widespread abuse" were unfounded. He blamed those charges on "Big Labor's efforts to shut down a booming textile industry." Wow! Is he ever clever, of course the union wants to put them out of business-shut them down, everyone knows that driving a company out of business is the best way to raise union pay schedules and their own salaries, as well. (Is it just me?) The "factories," are allowed, by sleazy slime-wording hypocrisy, to use the "Made in USA" label however, in which tens of thousands of imported workers actually do the bulk of the work, in unhealthy physical health as well as sometimes-immoral conditions. In an interview with The Denver Post, the Schaffer, the Republican candidate for Colorado's vacated Senate seat elevated the protectorate's guest-worker program, as a "model" lawmakers should use when they overhaul the U.S. immigration system. In one sense, he is correct. Probably many of his pals, from what we have seen, are seriously in need of forced prostitution in their neighborhoods. Who else, even if paid, would sleep with such greedy creatures?

Besides that, forced prostitution is a heavily discounted profession, which is certainly cheaper than the prices former governor Elliott Spitzer agreed to pay. Well, at least the Democrats, when they use prostitutes, pay the prevailing price/value rate of labor. "At its base it is a union fight that has been taking place there," Schaffer said in an interview about his findings at the Northern Marianas Islands. "I insisted that it be a real* investigation, which it was," he said further, continuing that he visited 20 or more factories and found serious problems only in one of them. Uhuh, um, right. *What a Freudian slip?* Meanwhile his old sponsor, Abramoff is praying that when his sentence is concluded you will not remember him at all. Many people, especially Republicans probably won't, or if they do, will vote for him out of spite. You know the kind where you chop off one of your own body parts to spite the rest of your body-Real smart move, but why stop with the nose? Well, that is because Robbie-boy thinks he can still win the Senate election once the voters realize that Schaffer was just an innocent bystander as is Schaffer. I wonder what it is like to be a bystander when you are bound for HELL! Did one of Abramoff's "affiliates" pay $13,000 to send Schaffer to the Northern Marianas Islands? Supposedly, Congressman Schaffer took the trip in order to investigate human rights abuses by Abramoff clients in the garment industry. This by most standards is a serious business. It would be if we-all were doing it. Apparently not Schaffer. No, instead there he was parasailing and defending, surreptitiously, some whore making by profit hungry CORPORATE whores who make clothing, and pay slave labor wages, when they even bother to pay any wages. These fellows who are too impotent to compete in a real labor market where making a profit takes skill and brains and balls, the latter which is scarce among corporate profit whores of the garment industry, in my opinion. (In a class-action lawsuit filed the same year that Schaffer visited the Northern Marianas Islands, the lawyers alleged that many of the workers lived in slum conditions, often housed seven to a room in barrack camps surrounded by barbed wire to keep the workers in. Workers in some factories were said to have labored 12 hours a day, seven days a week, often without pay if they missed set quotas, the suit alleged. In my estimation these fellows who do completely evil things, once they have conspired to import near slave labor, they have bought into the evil Jesus spurned in the Temptation in the Wilderness. That is Hell bent greed, and contempt for the lives of those who work for them, and therefore of The God who brought them into being. A U.S. Interior Department investigation discovered that pregnant workers were forced to get (illegal) abortions or lose their jobs. Some were recruited for factories but were instead, if they were deemed pretty enough, forced into the sex trade instead. The islands' factories were cited by the U.S. Department of Labor more than 1,000 times for safety violations in the late 1990s.) Now, nearly a decade later, the trip is a definite campaign issue in Colorado. Schaffer is hustling to protect a guest-worker program condemned in years of government and journalistic reports. Now, also it now might link him to what Abramoff later bragged was an great success in lobbying to crush reform. He was aided by Right wing Republicans. Isn't it ironic that they who publically state hypocritically that they oppose abortion, are allegedly forcing aborions upon workers?-(Where are the Christian Right on this forcing of young girls, some apparently, barely more than children, to get illegal abortions and/or to become prostitutes)??? Probably in the same place as their criminal heroes.

Some of those, so-called Republicans sit on the House Resources Committee, the same one on which Schaffer sat. If this doesn't disgust the so-called Christian Right, they are inculpable of empathy and are hypocrites in their opposition to abortion, a practice I find just as disgusting, as abortion itself. Well, Mr. Schaffer said he didn't find any indications of abuse, despite decades of evidence to the contrary. After returning to Washington, Schaffer became one of Abramoff's strongest allies attacking any human rights advocates who strived to bring reform to the Northern Marinas. What puzzles me is how anyone, John McCain included, can ignore such piggishly Hell-earning, avaristic, selfish, behavior. What kind of people are these, one must ask they, do they have any of semblances of a conscience or soul? Perhaps, in retrospect McCain's torture at the hands of his Vietnamese captors, made no lasting impression, Democrat Mark Udall with his record of courageous leadership on the war in Iraq and renewable energy issues will be running against the Thug-Party in Colorado. Thomas Jefferson must be spinning in his grave to see what shiftless Slugs now run his party-the Republican Party-souls are sold cheaply on the Republican side of Hell. Lobbyists and other advocates custom of paying for trips, to exotic sites, accompanied by spouses and staff, are not illegal. Doesn't that piss you off? I feel that lobbying ought to be one of the few crimes punishable by death. In the last several years, Congress-people and their families and staffs took about 25,000 trips worth $60 million, according to several studies one by the Center for Public Integrity. Speaking of Abramoff, Taylor West, a spokeswoman for Schaffer's Democratic opponent, Mark Udall said, "Given that many Republican members, including Tom DeLay, Bob Ney and Conrad Burns, have lost their seat or gone to prison based on their association with this criminal, it's pretty remarkable that Schaffer seems to be proud of his association with these sleazy Abramoff-sponsored junkets." On the other-the Dark side of the Just/Unjust coin, Republican Party Dick Wadhams a Schaffer spokesman, said that Democrats are trying to score political points out of an iffy connection, they, he said, "are trying to leave the impression that Bob went gallivanting off to the Mariana Islands with Jack Abramoff, who Bob has never met, never talked to and wasn't even aware was around back then." Oh, now we get it. He never heard of Abramoff? Wadhams added, "Preston-Gates was just another law firm at that time, like hundreds of others. You have to put this in context of what was going on then." Sorry, but, no, I don't. Schaffer said in connection to the many investigations of labor practices, forced abortions and steering forcibly young girls into prostitution. "There were some examples of problems that we found, and we raised those with the equivalent of the attorney general, but in general the workers were smiling; they were happy." I buy that don't you? People are always happy screwing even when forced, as happy as they are when near impossible goals are charged to them, while locked into a Concentration camp and forced to work overtime with no pay if expectations are not met. "The fact that (Schaffer) sided against the human rights of those workers, not just then, but still today, shows he was more interested in doing the bidding of the people who set up the trip than in actually investigating abuses," said Matthew Miller, a spokesman for the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee. Those alleged abuses during Clinton administration led to quick of congressional action and several bills passed in the Senate, which would have brought the slave-like factories under tougher American laws, but all the legislation failed to pass in the House. Abramoff and his firm, which were hired by factory owners and the government of the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, were paid more than $11 million over several years to defend the area from strict labor practice reform, according to some reports. In a 2001 memo, Abramoff sent to the Marianas governor, he appeared trying to justify millions in fees, as he mentions his strong relationships with members of the House Resources Committee, the American Government unit that holds jurisdiction over U.S. protectorates. He says of his lavish trips for scores of congressmen and family members were aimed at building goodwill.

His ties to these lawmakers ultimately scuttled threatening legislation such as one bill proposed by the then Senator Frank Murkowski, Republican-Alaska, would have forced stricter labor and immigration laws on the islands', "We then stopped it cold in the House," he adds. "In the end, this all-out public relations and lobbying blitz brought the (Mariana Islands) back from the brink of legislative disaster," he wrote. In some cases, Abramoff, who is now serving a sentence for fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy in trying to bribe public officials, none of which was related to the Mariana Islands situation, made an effort to soften and blur the scope of his effort and his firm's involvement.

I hope that when this scandal is further investigated he will face new trial, this time for his work in the Northern Mariana Islands, and his friend Mr. Schaffer and he can become roommates, then maybe Tom DeLaye, whose ultimate trial has been unreasonably delayed, will join them in a Jailhouse, threesome. However, I doubt that it would surpass the Marylyn Monroe sex tape for demand. I only wish I had the $1.5 Million, viewing fee, for her video.
