|
:::::::: Recently, two entertainers have destroyed their careers by uttering racial slurs in public. Both of them gave heartfelt apologies and expressed shame and regret. Don Imus and Michael Richards said they weren’t racists and couldn’t understand why they made such hateful comments. What we are seeing here is fallout from the current atmosphere of divisiveness and stealth racism fostered by the Republicans. They divide us according to haves and have-nots, blacks and whites as well as pro and con on meaningless but emotional wedge issues. They vilify the disadvantaged side in each case to create rallying points of contempt as a means to garner support. How else can a party that opposes the best interests of the majority of the people win elections and hold power? We must repudiate the Republican Party to achieve unity and brotherhood in America and a better life for more people.
