McCain's remark "We've wasted a lot of our most precious treasure, which is American lives." on the Letterman Show on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, was telling and revealing. In this unseeming moment and with his guard down John McCain finally told the truth on what he really thinks about the Iraq war.

Most Americans and most of the world realizes that this war in Iraq is not a noble war and that this was not a fight that we had to fight. (Sadam Hussein did not attack us on 911). And yes, McCain, lives have been wasted. There are husbands who will never be coming home again to their wives and children. There are daughters who will never see their parents again and see their dreams come true. There are brothers, sisters who will never see their siblings and friends, who will never start a family and the family tree to go on. And too, there are all the maimed and sick who have lost legs, arms, and are brain damaged for a war that never had to be fought in that way.

This subconscious remark of McCain's is important because this is what many Republicans really think, although they do not have the heart or will to say it out loud. However, for all these wasted lives and the maimed ("our most precious treasure"), it is time for truth to be told, so that this ugly damaging lie can finally be put to rest and our troops finally come home although the damage will be felt mentally and emotionally for years to come. It is important that the media reports and analyzes this Freudian slip and to give it the attention that it deserves as revealing the truth of what so many people really believe.

And too, maybe McCain has a heart after all. Let's see if Congress does too.
