Some helter-skelter thoughts which popped into mind unconsciously during the Presidents State of the Union, "Give War a Chance" Address.

::::::::

The Bush State of the Union Speech was filled with the truth about many things. (The Bush State of the Union Speech made a person think further on beyond the President's words.)

We did not anticipate the war we are in, in Iraq now. (We did not anticipate the war we are in, in Iraq now when we initially bombed Bagdad at night producing that beautiful pyrotechnical display we all watched on TV, not seeing the that Iraqi children were being blow up by the hundreds just in the first few days.)

The stock market is higher than it ever has been. (The stock market is higher than it ever has been because there is a war on and being planned to continue.)

We are in a global war against terrorism. (We are in a global war against terrorism that started with the demonstrations against war in Vietnam.)

It is good to give people money to buy insurance from private insurance companies. (It is good to give people money to buy insurance from private insurance companies - Europeans and Canadians are not as bright as Americans. They think that national health insurance is better than many private insurance companies to chose from.)

Senator Kerry stood up to clap for patients knowing better than anyone else what kind of health care they want, (I didn't stand up because I can't figure out which HMO to chose from, there are so many different and complicated plans that I will not be able to know what kind of health care I want before the next State of the Union Address. I would like to ask Senator Kerry to help me choose, he seems so sure of himself.)

Senator John McCain stood up to clap for controlling expenditures.
(Senator John McCain wants to spend the savings from expenditures inside the country on war outside the country. Pilot John McCain bombed Hanoi over twenty times, even though Eisenhower said Ho Chi Minh would have won more than 80% of the vote in an all Vietnam election. Senator McCain is not a Democrat. Senator McCain is a Republican.)

House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi stood up to take a bow for being a woman. (House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi also stood up to clap for supporting our troops going to Iraq, even though most Americans watching TV voted to bring them home.)

We have to fix Social Security. (We have to fix Social Security so the wealthy will be able to continue not paying contributions on most of the dollars they earn while most of us pay on every single dollar we earn, even if we die early and never collect, and even though Social Security could be so overflowing in funds that we could increase payments and shorten the age at which we could retire just by making the wealthy to pay social security contributions on just SOME of their income above the $90,000 cap - like William Gates Senior, (not his son, apparently), Warren Buffet and nine hundred and ninety-eight other billionaires think it is fair to do - Representatives from Ohio and Florida introduced bills to raise the cap two years ago.}

There was a lot of cheering, yelping and even screaming when President Bush walked in to the joint session of Congress to make his speech, pretty much like the staged welcome comedians get at the beginning of all the variants of the Tonight Show on evening television. Only thing missing was the 'bring 'em on' music with the drum roll and rim shot although there was the raised hand and smile stilling the roar of the crowd.

Everyone seemed to feel obliged to stand and applaud when their President mentioned a number of counties we have to 'straighten out' including Cuba. Whew! Kind of unnerving. No mention of Central American countries in dire human rights straits like Guatemala, no citing of cesspools of violence and poverty like Haiti. Frightening even, for this aim being continued to taken on Cuba, even though Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Uruguay, and Nicaragua recently elected presidents who are all friendly toward Cuba, and even Argentina, Brazil and Chile do not share the U.S. anti-Cuban government stance.

Even more scary was the seeming unanimity of gung ho acceptance of "We must carry the war to the enemy." as if killing more of them over there is the best protection for us over here. Hey, this is the age of communication and technology. When I listen to the Big Brother like recording blaring in the subway car, "if you see something, don't keep it to yourself" and admonishments to be alert and watch out for unattended packages, hell, you know damn well that the projects of killing Afghans in Afghanistan and Iraqis in Iraqi and planning to hit Iran are not thinking of protecting subway riders.

OK, those of us who watched the State of the Union hubris on the tube 'saw something' and I for one am not planning to 'keep it to myself.' It is obvious that those siting listening to the President, have no concern for our future safety.

John Lennon did not write a song called "Give War a Chance" and who was the burly Dr. Strange Love looking guy to the left of Speaker Pelosi just behind the President - kind of has a permanent scowl.

Our troops are going to go from house to house to secure Bagdad. (Jesus! Glad they are not coming to my house.)
