I'm 58 years old, lived in Georgia on and off for years, and never in my life have I seen this much rain! I checked the levels of Lake Lanier two or three days ago, and it was six feet from being at "full pool." I just checked again as I'm writing this Diary, and it's now 4.64 feet from being at full pool. Lake Lanier is huge, and that's an enormous amount of water in just a few days...

::::::::

If you read CNN's Headline News, two people in Atlanta have already died from flood related deaths, and if this rain continues as it is now, the death toll is bound to rise.

Floods kill 2 in rain-soaked Atlanta area

I live in Northern Georgia at the edge of the Chattahoochee National Forest, and the rain is extraordinary! It has been almost non-stop for days, and while there have only been two deaths so far, the economic disaster to a state that has already been hard hit by this economy could become enormous. If this rain doesn't stop soon, it wouldn't surprise me if the Governor of Georgia doesn't declare Northern Georgia and especially Atlanta and its immediate suburbs a disaster area and seek federal funds and assistance to repair what may be hundreds of millions of dollars in damage. Some towns, due to broken water lines, are having to boil water to prepare meals.

Last year, Lake Lanier was almost a disaster area, and if you look at the photos I posted back then (LINK)- and if I could get there now, the difference is mind-boggling. We all hoped this drought would end, but never suspected that when it did, it would happen in such a disastrous fashion. Let's hope that no one else dies, and for goodness sakes, if you live in the Atlanta area - DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS ROADS THAT ARE UNDER WATER! If you do, you may be placing your life and any family members you have with you at risk - so please be extremely careful.

I am nothing more than a patriotic American that is doing whatever I can to further the cause of democracy, the rule of law, and am absolutely outraged on how the Bush administration is defying our Congress, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights! (more...)
