Why Americans are angry and what is there to do about it.

The society of human beings in America is on the verge of collapse, if not complete internal implosion. Almost all of our existing systems on which we depend are in ruins whether due to hostile takeover, mismanagement, or complete neglect. Our government is on the take(Lobbyists), our medical care is owned by the insurance industry, our schools have been decimated by paying parents to send their kids to “private schools”, our economy was drained by the Bush administration presumably for his war in Iraq, our infrastructure is crumbling all around us, crime is rising as fast as people are losing their jobs, and the rich (newly and pre-existing) are controlling our country and sucking it dry. I probably have left out some other devastating system collapses but this list is quite enough to signal the end of this “empire” as we knew it. All of the great empires that have existed on this planet have collapsed for one reason or another. The majority of them ended due to greed, avarice, and various forms of allowing existing systems (education, economy, healthcare, infrastructure, etc.) to decay and crumble. We were always taught that we would not come to this end because we were a Democratic Republic and the people would not let this happen. Well, obviously the “people” have forgotten their duties and are allowing their government(of the people, by the people, and for the people) to become of the greedy, by the lobbyists, for the rich. We have failed to be kept informed by allowing the liars, greedy bastards, and conservative/liberal, and religious extremists to misinform us. I blame our inadequate educational systems and the natural laziness of the human race for this major lapse of our responsibilities to ourselves. We have become so self-absorbed that we do not even pay enough attention to who is running for office that it allows morons like Bill Clinton and George Bush to not only be elected once, but twice. These “candidates” spread lies against their rivals in well contrived campaigns and violate voting sanctity at will. What has resulted is the voting public is getting very agitated toward our elected officials but they do not know exactly why! The town meetings taking place now are excellent examples of this problem. People are as mad as hell but they obviously do not know why. Our current president, Barack Obama, appears to be an intelligent and knowledgeable person that is at least trying to correct our huge chasm of problems. He is, however, very handicapped by what is becoming a more and more confused and illiterate populace that knows something is wrong but not exactly what nor whom to blame. He is in essence trying to push a chain with the usual results of such an endeavor.

The current major problem is the sorry state of our healthcare. If one uses the term “Social Medicine” a majority of citizens jump up and down while venomously spewing a hateful stream of explicatives against it. What is quite silly about this is that what we have now is a socialized medical system(Medicare, Medicaid, HMO's, etc). Both Canada and Mexico, not to mention the many more countries of this planet, have a socialized medical plan for all of their citizens and they have much better and healthier citizens than we do and at a much smaller percentage of the costs. Our constituency has just enough knowledge about healthcare to be dangerous as well as ignorant of what we truly need. I will grant you that many of the existing socialized medical plans have problems but that does not mean we cannot develop a better one here. To begin with a socialized medical system in this country would need to be operated like our postal service. That is to say as much removed from the political government as possible. Also to be included would be a way of making sure that the medical personnel were compensated for their education and expertise. The major problem our current health systems have is the cost overruns. These are primarily due to insurance companies profits(400%+), large staffs dedicated to denying/delaying claims, drug company profits, and the huge amounts of lobbyists payments made to our Congresspersons.

Much of our governmental systems(infrastructure, education, healthcare, protectoral services(police, fire, military), etc.) are in need of separation from the political influences that degrade their effectiveness and allow expenses to get out of hand. Money that goes to these services must not become available to those whose greed makes them steal from this country. There are a great many restrictions we need to make on our elected officials as well. All elected or appointed positions within our federal government must have term limits(8-10 years). These same people must be required to place all income made during their terms into a national credit union as well as declare their total wealth at the beginning of their campaigns or initial appointments. Any discrepancy found during their service to this country would be cause for immediate removal and/or imprisonment should they be found guilty of fraudulently acquiring funds from outside sources for favors. Basic requirements for running for office must be made. Education should be a must as well as testing for mental stability. Before you become too offended I realize that we must be very sensitive to making sure that these changes do not discriminate against anyone for the superficial reasons many people use to be racists/bigots.

A great many of our existing services(Medicare, Social Security, Veterans Administration) are set up in a way as to prevent people from getting their just benefits. This is one of the most costly evasions we pay for daily. It costs far more to everyone involved to work against doing the correct thing than it would to just lookout for the fraudulent ones. If the penalties for defrauding the government were greater and more strictly enforced there would be much less fraud and many more people receiving the help that they actually deserve.

Capitalism is a nice idea but it too has its draw backs as we are seeing occur now. One type of government(capitalism, socialism, communism, etc.) will only go so far to provide it's beneficiaries with what they require to live reasonable lives. A proper functioning government should use whatever form of government that will provide its constituents their current needs in as efficient a manner as possible. A government's responsibility is to provide the citizens of its country with their primary needs. This does NOT include declaring wars or messing with any other countries affairs, allowing any business/company/corporation to control or profit from public matters, or allowing anyone to have the freedom of going hungry, unclothed, unsheltered, or unhealthy. Citizen's responsibilities are to be respectful and responsible to family, friends, neighbors, and their elected officials. They must continually strive to be knowledgeable and involved in all government activities. This is necessary in all forms of government, but particularly in our Democratic Republic. Any governmental reforms(health, education, economic, financial, social, or otherwise) must have, not only the well being of its citizens at heart, but the well being of all of the world's citizens and the world itself.

The only question now is how can We, the People, manage to turn our mess around and regain control of our government and hopefully the fate of all mankind?

I am a Vietnam Vet disabled by MS and other various diseases.  On average I am a Moderate with slight Conservative leanings although it truly depends on what issue I am concerned with at the time.
