Greetings from our nation's capital where i am attending the national conference "Politics and Spirituality: Seeking a Public Integrity." ::::::::
The first session's presenter was Richard Rohr with tonight's speaker scheduled to be Jim Wallis of Sojourners. What i am struck by so far is the turnout as there is 1700 people present and that number was sold out by November according to the event's organizers. There is an overwhelming sense in this country from like-minded Christians that the very teachings of Christ have been hijacked for far too long by people who are more interested in themselves and their gain than the true message of Christianity.
More to follow but some quotes from early in this conference:
"Politics is what you do publicly, spirituality is why you do it."
"The definition of enslaved is when you cannot imagine another way of doing things."
"God does not love you because you are good, but because He is good."
"Where your gift meets the suffering of the world, that is where your vocation lies."
Blessings.
