McCain's Arrogance on CBS

I watched CBS Evening News with Katie Couric this evening and saw a snippet of an interview with John McCain, that darling Senator that seems to be popular with as many Democrats as Republicans. He mentioned that the approval ratings of Congress are telling him that they need to do a better job with protecting Social Security, with job creation, protecting our borders, and other things. Katie Couric asked him what would bother him the most if the Democrats win big in the November elections, and he said "gridlock in Congress". Katie replied "Isn't that what you have now?" He replied that it would get worse. He also said that he was worried about Iraq. He said that if we pulled out now, we would be making a terrible mistake. That they would control the Middle East (well, they live there) and that we could eventually fight them over here.

Come on Senator McCain! Do you take the American people for complete idiots! Are you so damn smug that you think that for one moment that I or anyone else with any sense thinks that the Arab Fundamentalists are going to be anymore of a threat in the future than they are right now? What do you believe is going to happen? Are they going to go to RENT-A-NAVY and buy troop carriers to bring the fight to our shores? Do you believe that you can scare Americans into voting Republican? How can the Democrats fail any more miserably than your own party? The President that you support had no valid reason to attack Iraq. You STILL support his decision, and you might announce after the elections that YOU might run for President? Do you believe that we want a succession of idiots occupying the Oval Office?

The scare tactics that the Republicans have been using on Americans have long since ceased to scare anyone. What is the threat level today? I don't know, either does anyone else, nobody cares anymore. You people wanted a war and you got one. Now you can fight a war with the American people. You have paid Haliburton a billion dollars for work that they never did in Iraq. You are sending soldiers with PTSD back into combat for the second and third time because your party started a war without enough soldiers. I was a soldier for almost 21 years. I know what I'm seeing. You say you want more soldiers in Iraq. Where are they going to come from? Are you going to convince this President from your own party of this, or just wait until you are the President? Where is the sanity in Washington? Since when does a Republican say on national TV that one of your prime concerns is protecting Social Security? I thought that Social Security was anathema to Republicans. You are grasping at straws. It's time the Republican members of Congress stop supporting this maverick President and bring the United States back to reality. Your party has wiretapped us, eliminated the Geneva Conventions on torture (I think they stop at possible "organ failure"), and eliminated Habeas Corpus, the cornerstone of human rights. You were a prisoner of war. Do you think that what we are doing is right? Are you proud of yourself and your party?

Excuse me, I'm heading down to the beach with my binoculars to see if the Arab Navy is pulling up to our shores.
