9/11 RESCUE AND RECOVERY WORKERS VISITING NEW HAMPSHIRE TO TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT RUDY GIULIANI
On Saturday, January 5th, Ground Zero rescue and recovery workers will visit New Hampshire to tell their story of the real Rudy Giuliani. Their visit will accompany the release of THE REAL RUDY: ABANDONED HEROES, a short, investigative documentary produced by Robert Greenwald's Brave New Films and premiering online at www.therealrudy.org. Ironworker John Sferazo, paramedic Marvin Bethea and janitorial worker Alex Sanchez, who have asked Giuliani to meet with them in Manchester, will show the video on portable DVD screens and talk to reporters.
ABANDONED HEROES features the volunteer rescue and recovery workers at Ground Zero who were abandoned by Rudy Giuliani when they needed his leadership most. Tens of thousands of firefighters, police officers, construction workers, day laborers and volunteers rushed to Ground Zero in the months after September 11, many of them remaining at the site for months searching for survivors of the attack or the intact remains of victims. At Ground Zero, these true 9/11 heroes were exposed to crushed concrete, pulverized glass, asbestos, fiberglass, jet fuel and other combustibles and airborne contaminants. Nearly 80% of emergency responders reported the emergence or aggravation of lung problems as a result of their time on the pile, and half of the responders struggled with pulmonary, mental health, or ear, nose and throat symptoms a year after the rescue effort.[1]
Since that time, Giuliani has done nothing to address the health issues faced by these 9/11 heroes. He has offered no assistance to other New York elected officials in their efforts to lobby the federal government for funds to help pay for treatment for these victims, and he continues to refuse even to address the issue. "The country needs to know the truth about Rudolph Giuliani," says Bethea. "And the truth is, he has forgotten about the 9/11 responders."
The last two REAL RUDY short investigative videos from Brave New Films have garnered over 400,000 views between them. In all, Brave New Films' short online documentary films received over 10 million views in 2007.
