Why I Can Beat John Mica (R-FL)

Message Faye Armitage
Have you heard people in Florida District 7 tell you: "Good Luck, in a very Republican Congressional District."

Early voting has started for the Florida primary, so let's recap why we CAN WIN in Florida Congressional District 7!

Florida District 7 is not as Republican as people think. Swing State Project considers all district with a Partisan Voter Index (PVI) rating of R+1 to R+5 by the non-partisan Cook Report vulnerable in this election. Well, guess what, Congressional District 7 carries a R+3 rating. And even the NRCC considers no Republican seat safe in 2008.

We will never have a better chance than NOW to unseat John Mica!

I am the only candidate with experience in the political arena fighting for the issues that matter most to the people in District 7.  I have been a health care activist for over 12 years, first advocating for Patient Safety, then stem cell research, and most recently for Universal Health care.  It was my son's paralysis from a soccer injury at age 7 which ignited my passion for these medical issues and the political process.  After seeing the poor response we are getting from Washington and in particular from our sitting US Congressman, I realized we need Citizen Legislators. Not Career Politicians!

I have lived in Central and North East Florida since 1994, currently in Fruit Cove.  I'm an economist, with a masters degree in Economics, and have  private and public sector experience in education, finance and health care. This is most important at a time when voters point to our ailing economy as their number one concern.  Having raised five children on my own, I can really relate to the issues that many in our District are dealing with.  Also, my son-in-law is currently serving in Iraq which gives me a personal connection to effectively work toward a responsible end to the Iraq war, which is siphoning 12 billion dollars out of our economy every single month.

I believe that as your Congresswoman, I am accountable to you, the voter.  That's why I pledge to do all I can to receive top scores with important organizations like themiddleclass.org, the disabled American veterans (dav.org), and the League of Conservation Voters (lcv.org).  My opponent, in office since 1993, scored an F with themiddleclass.org, a zero for three consecutive years with the dav.org, and shamefully for a district with the longest coastline, his score was just 5 out of 100 with lcv.org.  We cannot afford "more of the same" with a Bush Republican representing District 7.

Our problems require bold, new leadership to solve them.  There has been no tragedy we haven't overcome, no problem we couldn't solve, and there is no wrong in America we can't cure with what is right.

Vote for the People's Voice in Congress!
